Aunt Ems Gourmet Popcorn - Home

Recipe adapted from 'Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn Cookbook'
- Ingredients:
- 1 extra-large sweet onion (Vandalia Onions taste the best)
- 2 ½ cups of Aunt Em's Tender White Popcorn (finely crushed)
- ¾ cup of all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon of baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon of paprika
- 1-cup buttermilk
- Salt to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Directions:
- * Pour 1 ½" of vegetable oil into a 4-quart saucepan and heat to 350° F (if the oil starts smoking, you need to turn down the heat).
- * Cut onion into thick slices and separate into rings.
- * Mix together remaining ingredients except buttermilk in a medium-mixing bowl.
- * Pour buttermilk into a wide rim flat bottom bowl.
- * Dip onions, one at a time, into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk, and finally back into the flour mixture.
- * Fry onions a few at a time until golden brown (if you put to many into the pan at one time, they will stick together and not cook evenly).
- * Serve warm either straight up or with the condiment of your desire.
